about

Loosely influenced by Ursula K. LeGuin's Hainish Cycle, 'Alison' depicts a man professing his feelings for a woman in the moments before an interstellar jump, during which hundreds of years will pass, but after which they will not have aged or experienced the passing of time.

'Alison' is the first collaboration between Grand Rapids, MI artists Biiko and ttypes. Both had new releases in the past year and met through connections in the improv comedy scene before exchanging loose ideas with one another about a new direction to take from their previous work. The result was a song crafted around vocals that ttypes had recorded acappella, which led to a structurally loose songwriting style not constrained by either of the solo artists initial idea of what the song would be.

lyrics

Alison hold me now, I wanna be your lover

And never come home.

Propulsion on, a minute til we pass out, and then we sleep the long time.

Look at Saturn's rings, as the titan sirens sing (easy on my jet). Easy just yet I might for get.

Oh Alison, tomorrow we'll be there, a hundred years'll pass.

A million miles every second that we're gone and every second that we're gone and then we're Ceti Tau (press it now)

Oh Alison, tell me everything. A million miles every second that we're gone and, then we're gone and- couldn't I say.

I'm ignorant of you so fill my mind

With your soft light.

A minute minute minute til we pass out.

Alison hold me now, I wanna be your lover.

You're like a song I have not sung, and I want to let it out.

Oh Alison, tell me everything, a million miles every second that we're gone and, then we're gone and...

Alison hold me now, I wanna be your lover.

And never go home.

Propulsion on, a minute til we pass out, and then we sleep the long time.

Look at Saturn's rings, as the titan sirens sing, goodbye fall and spring.

Easy on my jet.

Alison hold me now, I wanna be your lover.
